HOW THE RETAINER WORKS
The orthodontic transparent retainer has the advantages of no snap ring, beautiful appearance, comfortable wearing, stable effect, and simple production. Two tools are used first: a vacuum former and a special plastic sheet. The plastic sheet used in orthodontics is relatively hard, and 0.8MM ~ 1.5MM can be selected.
1. Take an impression.
2. Fill in plaster and wait for the plaster model to dry, then trim the model, remove the part of the palate and the base of the tongue, it is best to make it into a "U" shape.
3. Place the forming sheet on the forming machine, clamp it, lift it to the heating place, and place the finished model on the vacuum suction cup of the vacuum forming machine.
4. Use a vacuum heater to heat the hard piece, let it sag about 2 cm, the deeper the sag, the thinner the holder will be. Move it down on the model until it is fully seated.
5. Use a vacuum machine for 15-20 seconds to ensure molding, remove the heater, and remove the mold when it cools down.
6. Trim off the excess with scissors, or use a bur to grind it down 2~3MM directly below the gingival margin, trim the edge, and keep 0.5 mm below the gingival margin.
7. After the braces are trimmed, place the braces on the model again to check whether they fit. Such an orthodontic retainer is made. If you feel that the edges are not tight, you can bake it with an alcohol lamp and bend it inward until it is tight. In the same way, plastic sheets of different thickness and hardness can be used to make whitening trays, night grinding pads, etc.
